Awnings

For protection from the harsh Australian heat and sun its best to use a product that has been specifically approved for these conditions. Bellarine curtains and blinds use only quality Australian made awnings and all our fabrics are thoroughly tested for our unique climate.

The idea of an awning is to stop the heat before it hits the glass. The most common type are standard Aauto sunblinds. These have been around for years although much has changed, mostly with the introduction of many new fabrics. The concept remains the same where by they project out a certain distance from the window to increase air flow between the fabric and the glass, which then works to cool down your room. For areas like Portarlington, St Leonards, Ocean Grove,  Barwon heads and the Surf coast you may want to choose stainless steel options to protect your components from the sea air.

For ease of operation there are crank awnings which simply work by hooking a crank into a loop on the side of the head box and winding it up or down. For awnings over sliding doors there is a drop arm awning system available which can have a projection up to 1.5 metres and neatly winds back onto your wall when not in use, so you can easily go in and out of your door area.

To enclose an alfresco area there are ezips or zip screen awnings. You will get protection from the sun wind and insects throughout the seasons. All have fully enclosed head boxes. The side channels close in neatly without any gapping, and the Heavy duty base rail slides up and down the side channels with ease. Available as a crank operated system or a spring operated system, it’s a great way to increase your living space and allows you to enjoy outside living all year round. These can also be motorised and operated from multi channel remotes for a state of the arts design and easy operation. At Bellarine curtains and blinds, our consultants have years of experience and no job is too difficult in achieving a great result.

Wire guide awnings are sleek in design and can be used on windows or around an alfresco area. The stainless wires look minimalist and the weighted base rail is a simple and small teardrop shape. Available in motorised or crank options this style of awning will enhance the look of your house.

If you have windows that are high up and you’re unable to operate them from ground level, we have a fixed guide awning system that looks very similar to an A auto system but can be motorised and operated from a single or multi channel remote.

Fabrics have come a long way since the days of brightly striped canvas awnings and decorative scalloped naps. Although if retro is your style we can still cater for that look. The most popular fabric by far is a vision weave fabric that allows you to see out clearly but will still give you protection from the sun and wind. It will also give you privacy, has breathability and good insect control. Commonly used is a 5% openness fabric, but for real hot spots like the east and the West, we would recommend a 1% openness fabric which will allow you to see out through a more grainy vision than the 5% openness fabric. All vision weave fabrics are made wider which alleviates the need for joins. Canvas is still popular for 100% protection. Most are one colour these days, although traditional stripes are still available. The latest release is one block fabric, 100% block out, easy to maintain and coated for better durability this is the new modern canvas.

Awnings are great and stylish addition to your home, providing insulation and protection against the ever changing elements, so you and your family can enjoy comfort all year round.
